pile: Vimeo’s encoding system at work, automatically turning machines on and off to save capacity (this is what Peter and I have been working on for ~3 months) =) Sorry to overload you guys on Vimeo posts lately, but I thought this was really cool when Andrew told me he was going to build it, and I was really stoked when he got it working. It was only a very short time ago that Vimeo’s growth was causing major queues for conversion. Thanks to these guys, the system is much smarter now, works WAY faster, and all of that without raising our operating costs.
